i think #3 should be #1. like ray bourque is one of the best defencemen all time, and to just put the puck in his skates like that and get around him that easily and without any obstruction i think is better than making a good move like he did in #1. again, that bourque
One of the reasons this guy is greater than Gretzky is the fact that he could do these things while suffering immense pain from back injuries that would have ended most people’s careers and while enduring the incredible fatigue of radiation treatment. Greatest ever. Sorry Wayne, I love you but Mario would have broken all your records if he was in better health
Mario could come back to the NHL today and still lead the league in scoring. Thats how great he was, and is.
ACParker13.. He actually would lead nearly every scoring bracket there is.. He played less than 1000 games and still managed to get almost 700 goals.. So yes he would be higher on totals compared to Gretzky..
I started following hockey in ‘92-’93. I was sure he was the greatest ever then and I’m sure now.
It’s not just that he was the greatest offensive talent ever - it’s how he made everyone on his line look so much better.
Like Don Cherry said “If Mario had a Marty Mcsourly protecting him like Gretzky did or Bob Probert defending him like Steve Yzerman did, he would not have the injury’s he does today.”

they forget my fav, when he does that toe drag around the defenceman then brings it to his backhand and tucks it behind the goalie
Mario Lemieux is the greatest player to ever play hockey. He is the type of player that could be great in any era of hockey. If Lemieux were in his prime right now he would by far lead the league. Half those passes he makes I wouldn’t even see coming. It is my personal opinion that had he stayed healthy he would be the all-time leader in goals.
I forgot one thing. The guy hadn’t skated for weeks, had radiation treatments, then had his last radiation treatment and flew to Philly that night and scored a goal and had an assist…not to mention that he came back that year trailing Pat LaFontaine by 16 points in the scoring race after missing 1/3 of the season only to come back and win the scoring title going away. The man is in a league of his own.
Mario was the best goal scorer the game has ever seen and it’s not even REMOTELY close. The guy could score from any spot on that ice - I’ll bet if you counted them up, he scored over a dozen goals from behind the goal line for christ’s sake.
ok the argument of Mario is better than Gretzky and Gretzky is better than Mario isn’t really provable either way. you can however argue that mario was a better goal scorer, he was. not an opinion, it’s fact. but Gretzky was a better playmaker/setup man. If Mario had a full career, God i wish he did. He would have easily scored 900+ goals. Gretzky would still have the assists mark. Based on that, I think Mario was a more complete player, along with the scoring, he had size.
Gretzky was great but for the best ever flip that 99 upsidedown and you get #66…MARIO..THE BEST EVER!
everyone think that gretzky is the best but he only scored many goals on open net. 66 Lemeiuex is the best.
Mario COULD have been the best had he not been injured as much.
I wouldnt think he was as good as Gretzky, or Bobby Orr but he was still a fantastic player.
Mario Lemieux is the best hockey player of alltime, Gretzky was very good but super mario was the best.
Greatest talent to ever play the game, bar none. Give him a clean bill of health his whole life and he puts up staggering numbers. Staggering.
