Pens need to sign him now for 15 years….
Who did you think i was going to sign for the remainder of their career? Malkin? Crosby? Fleury? Scuderi? No, I am talking about the glue that is Maxime Talbot. That’s right, Talbot. He has an intangible value to the team. I equate this to when the pens moved Bob Errey in 1992 after their 2nd cup and then didn’t get back to the finals when they had maybe their best team ever. Talbot, like Errey then, has an unmeasurable value to the team. He won’t lead the team in scoring. He won’t be included in the shootout lineup. He won’t be asked to put up 2 goals and an assist. On most nights, Max will just do the required 15 minutes of a 3rd line center and not be noticed.
Teams are always looking to add a piece to their lineup that will get them over the top, and like we saw last year, the penguins added a few key pieces at the trade deadline that enabled them to reach the Stanley Cup Finals, including Hossa, Dupuis, and Gill. Those are all great toppings, but if you don’t have the main ingredients like a talbot already in place, those moves usually only increase your payroll and leave you wondering why those moves didn’t work out.
